Recent projects don't get much bigger in terms of audience reach than Mission Sport, a new Royal Air Force campaign broadcast during FIFA World Cup coverage.
The project required a particularly considered approach to tone. From the outset, the brief centred on maintaining a sense of authenticity and seriousness throughout, while drawing connections between different aspects of RAF life without reducing those relationships to a simple contrast.
For the sound team, that meant developing a musical and sonic language that could support multiple facets of the film while remaining coherent and consistent from beginning to end. The challenge was less about creating dramatic shifts and more about preserving a shared sense of purpose throughout the piece.
Oliver led the original composition and sound design, developing a score that balanced tension, momentum and restraint. Alongside the music, the wider sound post process focused on ensuring that every element of the soundtrack contributed to the same overall intention, allowing the film's central ideas to emerge naturally rather than being overstated.
Dan handled some of the sound design and the final mix, with support from Oliver and Tom. As with many broadcast campaigns, close collaboration between agency, production, editorial and post-production teams was essential throughout the process.
Mission Sport formed part of the RAF's wider recruitment campaign and was broadcast during FIFA World Cup coverage. We were delighted to contribute to the project and to work once again with Jesse Lewis-Reece and the wider team.
